Global Compression Services was tasked with manufacturing bracketry to accommodate an AutoCOM R8 governor and CD200 ignition for a Cummins 855.
After working with the customer and several prototypes, GCS provided a cutting-edge solution specifically for this engine series. With the innovative bracket design, GCS improved the operator interface by removing the venier throttle assembly. This enhancement not only streamlined the control system but also significantly reduced operator fatigue and increased overall efficiency. With speed control now part of the control panel, the risk of slips, trips and falls associated with maneuvering on the compressor package to adjust RPM has been eliminated.
Reliability and run time were also improved by eliminating the Cummins accessory drive and the Woodward hydraulic governor, contributing to better RPM stability. The removal of these components led to a reduction in equipment lifecycle costs. Finally, replacing the Magneto ignition system with a modern ignition system allowed for easier timing adjustments, further enhancing the overall performance and reliability of the engine series.
This project provides a viable alternative to the accessory drive and hydraulic governor, which are increasingly difficult to source. The solution addresses common reliability issues and simplifies maintenance by eliminating the Magneto ignition system. This approach presents a cost-effective solution, reducing these engine components’ overall life cycle costs.
